Comment on Wikipedia Text: summary of pro and con arguments
. . . in referece to the wikipedia text,
summary of pro and con arguments
it is somewhat peculiar, and contrary to normal convention, to summarize pro and con arguments in con and pro sequence. This is a minor point, however.
On the matter of entrenched position, it is not correct to imply (though it is not explicitly stated) that everyone has entrenched positions.
There are, certainly, entrenched positions. But not just two positions: pro and con. There are many entrenched positions within both camps. Among skeptics there are those who think the shroud was painted and those who think it is a photograph. Interestingly, advocates of a painting explanation do an excellent job of proving it is not a photograph and advocates of a photography explanation do an excellent job of proving it is not a painting.
Among proponents of authenticity there are numerous entrenched positions on various theories of image formation. But there are also many open-minded people.
